In 2010 I ran Media Hothouse, a project set up by Knowle West Media Centre for 16 - 25 year olds with an interest in working in the creative industries. It offered practical support from professional mentors, skills development and individual bursary awards to 16 young people setting up businesses ranging from recycled clothing to sound recording, photography to hiphop, dance for film to scriptwriting. The project was overseen by a steering group made up of key industry figures.
Between 2003 – 07 I worked as an advisor for Creative Partnerships Bristol. Three specific projects grew out of this period of work for me: The NGDs (New Generation Documentors), StyaB, the young people’s creative mentoring programme and Creative Lab, an informal workshop space for experimentation and risk-taking.
